Joe Frazier

Joseph William "Joe" Frazier (d. 12 Ocak 1944, Beaufort, Güney Carolina – ö. 7 Kasım 2011, Philadelphia, Pensilvanya, ABD), 1970'li yılların ünlü boksörlerindendir. Muhammed Ali ile olan rekabetiyle bilinir. Ali ile 1971'de yaptığı ilk maçı kazanmış ve Ali profesyonel boks kariyerindeki ilk yenilgisini kendisinden almıştır. Fakat George Foreman ile yapılan maçı herkes tarafından Frazier'ın kazanacağı düşünülürken maçı sadece iki raundda kaybetmiştir. Ali bu maçtan sonra George Foreman ile yaptığı maçı da kazanıp şampiyon olurken Frazier'ın kariyerinin sonu yaklaşmıştır. Ali'nin kendisine sarf ettiği sözlere karşılık, Frazier onun için "O korkak Vietnam'a savaşmaya bile gelmedi. Ondan değil boksör, izleyici bile olmaz," demiştir. Muhammed Ali ise ona Çirkin Goril lakabını takmıştır. Joe Frazier ile Muhammed Ali'nin rekabetleri boks tarihinin en büyük rekabeti olarak bilinir ve Ali ile Frazier'ın Filipinler'in başkenti Manila'da yaptıkları son maç hâlâ dünyadaki en büyük boks maçı olarak kabul edilir.

Frazier'e Eylül 2011'de Karaciğer kanseri teşhisi konmuş ve 7 Kasım 2011'de ölmüştür. Joe Frazier, Philadelphia'da toprağa verildi. Frazier'ın cenazesine Muhammed Ali de katılmıştır.[2]

Amerikan halkı onu Smokin Joe olarak tanır.
