Meeting Notes

değiştir
  • Wikiproject:LGBT (In Turkish) is inactive. We should take actions to make it active again and to organise the people who want to work on it.
  • The "Medicalization" page had been translated to Turkish as "Making someone rely on medicine", we have seen that the sociological side of medicalization wasn't talked about enough. As a result, the Tıbbileştirme page was created and information (which was missing in the English Wikipedia as well) about the medicalization of LGBT identities was added.
  • The importance of creating pages on many issues that were particularly concerning for the LGBT+ individuals in Turkey, such as information about the legal process of gender reaffirmation, was mentioned. There is a great need for this type of articles, especially due to the inadequacy of available resources in Turkish.
  • The inadequacy of the rules to be considered in Wikipedia articles about LGBT+ individuals was discussed. The necessity of conducting a study by examining the guidelines used in other language Wikipedias on this issue was mentioned.
  • We talked about what can be done for international Wikipedia activities that are going to be held in countries with a bad record on LGBT rights, such as Turkey. We talked about the need to discuss the measures that can be taken to ensure that such an experience is safe and inclusive for LGBT individuals.
  • The participants have expressed interest in joining the Queering Wikipedia conferences in the future as well.
