Cain, 31 Temmuz 1966'da Mount Clemens, Michigan'da doğdu.[4][5] Santa Monica Yüksek Okulu'nun ardından gittiği Princeton Üniversitesi'nde öğrenimini tamamladı. 1976'da oyunculuğa başladı. En çok; başrolnü Amerikalı aktris Teri Hatcher ile paylaştığı dönüşümlü Clark Kent/Superman rolünde olduğu Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman adlı TV dizisi ile tanındı.
Özel yaşamı değiştir
Dean'in Christopher Dean Cain (d. 11 Haziran 2000) adında bir oğlu vardır. Eski Playboy Güzelleri'nden Samantha Torres ile beraberdir.[6] Babası film yönetmeni Christopher Cain'dir. 1990'lı yıllarda country şarkıcısı Mindy McCready ile boşanmayla biten bir evliliği oldu.[7][8]
