Risk hem olumlu hem de olumsuz olabilir ama insanlar genellikle olumsuz kısmına konsantre olmaktadır. Bu özellikle birisinin kendi ya da başkasının hayatını riske attığı tehlikeli durumlarda olabilmektedir. Riskler insanların gelecekteki hayatlarına negatif etkisi olacağı şeklinde endişeye yol açmaktadır.
